The primary and ultimate aim of my artwork is simply to connect.

Music is a language understood by all. Tunes and lyrics can move you, empathise with you and inspire you. They are a celebration of the human condition; the joy, the hurt, the love, everything that it is to be alive. Songwriters and singers are the vehicle that connects us to these feelings.

I choose faces not only to explore and engage connection, but because the human face represents the ultimate challenge. Our sensitivity to the symmetry, expression and arrangement of the face allows us to recognise a face in a crowd of hundreds or a face in the distance. My work does not attempt to create realism so much as recognition. As in gestalt theory the whole is greater than the sum of its parts. In viewing the whole, a cognitive process takes place – the mind makes a leap from comprehending the parts to realising the whole.
